MY JOURNEY

Hi, my name is Alexie Wray WTS, I am a qualified trichologist, which is an expert in scalp and hair diseases. My journey started around 25 years ago when I became a hair extension guru then a non-surgical hair replacement specialist. My non-surgical hair replacement expedition began while I was on vacation visiting my father in Miami. I came across a hair clinic that had just launched non-surgical lace wig systems for men and women. I was overwhelmed with excitement as I could not believe how realistic they looked. I immediately began an intensive research program. After months of study and investigation I decided I would attend a training course on how to accurately fit and style these hair systems. I spent months years mastering my craft, attending training academys in America and the UK.

A NEW CAREER PATH

In 2006 I created a new website featuring men and women’s hair loss, and incorporating non-surgical hair replacement systems. What I did not anticipate was the type of clients my new website was going to bring me. I had numerous clients arrive with various hair loss problems, including alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia and many other hair loss conditions. I was a little out of my depth and felt a burning desire to learn all about the different types of diseases these clients had. My sole purpose was to assist them. I became a trichologist over 10 years ago and now my time is spent as a consultant for trichology patients or giving actual consultations for clients who are choosing a non-surgical hair replacement system. The most common type of hair loss that men and women have is androgenetic alopecia, which generally affects the crown area. We know many clients are distraught at this stage. Many women, by the age of 50, show significant hair loss; recent research has shown its around 40%.

OBSERVATIONS OF A TRICHOLOGIST

As a practising trichologist I have observed and treated many patients who suffer from female pattern hair loss, alopecia areata, and most commonly TE. Telogen effluvium is a temporary hair loss that can be triggered by many different issues. I see many patients who are extremely young with this condition. It predominantly affects the crown area. Here are several conditions that can instigate telogen effluvium:

• Major psychological stress
• Menopause
• Iron deficiency
• Hypothyroidism/hyperthyroidism
• Many medications

WHY I BECAME AN EXPERT WITHIN MY FIELD

I became a hairdresser in 1998, and since then I have observed the hairdressing industry fluctuate numerous times. I had a burning desire to create a steady income, with a more solid foundation. Little did I know that many of those techniques I learnt back then, I would still be using today when applying men and women’s hair systems.
